Comments: I am researching the connection between the Bennetts and Terrys of Pittsylvania County, Va. in the late 1700's and early 1800's. In am descended from Jesse Lewis Bennett b. 1801. Family bibles list his parents as John Bennett and Mary (Polly) Lewis. I am trying to connect this John to a John Bennett who married Elizabeth Dodson. John and Elizabeth had a son named John, b. 1863. He appears in the minutes of Broad Run Baptist Church and in the older John's will. My problem is that there are two Johns who could fit; John Bennett m. Polly Lewis Mar 06, 1795, and John Bennett m. Polley Terry Nov 07, 1796. The Sept-Oct, 1999 Issue of The Terry Family Historian has an article written by Margie G. Brown about Benjamin and Delilah (Motely) Terry. One of the sources she quotes is a will of Benjamin Terry, Bk 11, Page 473 prob 15 Dec 1817. I have this will. One of Benjamin's heirs in this will is Polley Bennett who was given one hundred seventy four pounds in property. Does anyone have any information on how Polley connects to the Bennett family? Is this the Polley that married John Bennett? Especially, who are the parents of this John Bennett? Also, there is a marriage record showing Polley Terry married Stephen Yeatts on 8 April 1819 in Pittsylvania. County. Is this the same Polley? I have not yet begun to research this line, but my grandmothers name is Lucille Yates. Her family goes a long way back in Pittsylvania County although the spelling has changed over the years. It could be I am connected to the Terrys through this marriage also. I would like any information anyone could share about the connection of the Terrys to the Bennetts (or the Yates). I am particularly interested in contacting Margie Brown who wrote the above article. She may well already have the information that I need. Don Bennett

Comments: For years I have searched for information about my maternal greatgrandfather. His name was HENRY D.TERRY. The D is really debatable. Some in the family call it Davidson and others say it's Duncastle. However, he was born June 16, 1817, we think in Alabama. He had a brother, ALBERT G.TERRY. Albert was a Confederate veteran and Henry was in the Home Guard (or whatever that title was). Henry went on leave and got sick and died September 20, 1862 in or around Minter City, MS. We have never found any sign of a stone or marker for him and can't even find what his parents' names were. Does anybody have anything about this man? I know he lived because I'm here! He married ANN ELIZA MEUX in Carroll County,MS, January 23, 1851. We have proof of the marriage and a copy of his furlough. The original of the furlough is in the family. I would so like to find out more about this man whose blood I inherited. Jo Howell Marquis

My gfather Claud Clinton Terry came to Creek Nation, Indian Territory (Holdenville,OK) in 1899 with his father Joseph Terry(b.Dec,1852) from Leadhill, Boone County,Ark. Joseph married Jane Trimble (b.Feb 1,1857). I found Joseph & family in 1900 census Indian Territory but having trouble getting Arkansas info.Joseph stated in census he didn't know where his father was born, Mom was born in Ark. Joseph died Oct 4,1905 in Holdenville and since it was before statehood, there are no records. No mention in old microfiche newpapers at Holdenville library. My gfather, Claud C."Dee" married Emma Arminta Lee(b.Jan 25,1883)who I have traced back to John Lee Esquire(b 1689)Johnston Co,NC but no luck with Terry. My father, Raymond, died this year and my brother Stephen and I would like to know more about our family. I will gladly share all I know. Can you help us or offer advice how to proceed. Comments: Hi, Mike. I was looking for parents of Thomas Terry, born c.1653 in Bucks Co., PA. I went another way and found that three Terry's immigrated to the U.S. from England on the ship James in 1635. Assuming they are brothers -- Thomas, Robert and Richard. You have the wills of Thomas and Richard in one of your databases. In the will of Thomas, he mentions his son Thomas. Perhaps this Thomas is the father of the 1653 Thomas. Any thoughts?

These earlier issues covered Northern and Southern Terry families and contains references to most of the major Terry Clans North and South. MERRITT on Feb. 15, 1849 and they had the following children: Julia A., William Louis (my wife's gg-grandfather), Victoria, Eliza, and Judith, all born in Campbell Co. Julina was his second wife. His first may have been Elizabeth (Eliza) FARRAR of Appomatox Co., VA (the spouse buried next to him is "Eliza", d. June 18, 1848), but they had no children that lived past infancy. He appears to have had a brother William B. TERRY. I have not been able to locate Nathaniel's birthplace or identify his parents or any other siblings, or determine if he was related to the extensive TERRY family established in Bedford Co., VA since the 1700's. I am a descendent of the Lawrence County Terry's, but am a bit stuck on the little bit of information I have found. My g-g-g-g-grandfather's father was John F. Terry, born in 1814, Warren Co. TN. He was married three times to Louisa Eves, Celia Bashula Cheatham and Louise Bracken. I cannot find his father's first name, but he was born sometime around 1799, most likely in North Carolina. My dad's name was George Terry. I was born in Union, West Va. My dad's dad was Walter Samuel Terry and my great-grandmother was Carley Masters Terry. If you have any information on this clan of Terry's, I would appreciate hearing from you. Where are you located anyway?? Please send me your e-mail address. Thanks, James (Cousin James, maybe???!!!)

Comments: Hi, I just found you and am delighted to see a Terry Page. I found you through an article in Ancestry Magazines re search engines and used www.genealogyportal.com and typed in Benjamin Terry, my ancestor, who was born abt 1773, lived in PA, and then moved to Sharon, East Gwillimbury, York Co., Ontario, Canada. He died 30 November 1838 and was a member of the Children of Peace (a break-away Quaker sect). I suspect that his father was David Terry of Bucks Co, PA who was born abt 1740 and died 24 Jan 1820 in Sharon. Benjamin & Elizabeth Terry's daughter Rachel married Nehemiah Eves: Rachel & Nehemiah are my ggg-grandparents. I invite anyone to contact me who has similar Pennsylvania/Ontario Terry genealogical lines. Thanks, Sharleen

Comments: I am searching for information on Stephen Terry (d. 1822) in Botetourt Co., VA who married Sarah Davis, daughter of Nathaniel Davis. Stephen and Sarah can be traced through several VA counties including Louisa, Amherst, Rockbridge and Botetourt counties. Their children were Nathaniel Davis Terry, Drucilla Terry (Depp), Bennet W. Terry and John Alfred Terry. I am searching for Stephen's parents with no luck. He was supposed to be a cousin of Stephen Terry who married Mildred Bagby, but I've had no luck making a connection. Also, in his 1822 will he bequeaths a horse to his nephew Jonathan Eads. Said Jonathan would have to be from the Terry side and one would believe his mother would have been Stephen Terry's sister. I have found no record of an Eads marrying a Terry. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks to your great site & to a "cousin" I have been able to get the above. I originally had Mary Lilly FULGHAM, and her death certificate showed: Terry, TX. Well, I didn't know if that was the city of Terry or what. But I hoped & kept my fingers crossed that TERRY was the last name of my grandmother's mother!! It was!! From your TERRY Home Page search engine I got Fulgham info on 3 of your issues, with census data on Mary Lilly FULGHAM's offspring. I only had 3 and was a bit antsy about them. You gave me her parents & a grandmother, also. Great search engine!! Excellent TERRY site. I plan to read each "issue" as I can. Thanks. If you have additional info for me, PLEASE write!! Carole (age 60++ & searching my genealogy!) w/everyone's help...... I am not sure who Mary Lilly FULGHAM's father was - Does anyone know? Some think E. M. or E. W. Fulgham Perhaps Elias W. FULGHAM?? Comments: My "Brick Wall" Terry line ends with Kibble/Keeble Terry b abt 1799/1800 VA d, aft 1861 TN m. to Rebecca b. abt 1801 KY? . Appears to be in the household of Thomas Terry b 1760-1770 in 1830 Bedford Co TN Census, Was in 1832 Bedford Co. TN, 1850 Marshall Co. TN, 1860 Sugartree, Decatur Co. TN census. Has brothers Robert Henry Terry m. to Elizabeth Bobo, John Terry who died between 1840-1850 Lauderdale Co. AL, and poss. Thomas Terry m. to E. McGill ( they have Bedford Co TN family ties) who is in ARK. This Thomas has a son named Keeble b. 1848 TN. Kibble's brother- in- law was a James M. Proby will dated 1861 proven 1867 in which he names Kibble, Robert, John as his "brothers". Wifes name unknown. Orphans of John are Dolly Ann Terry age 16 ( poss. Elizabeth Ann Terry) and Daniel Terry and they are living in the Morrison household in 1850 Lauderdale Co. AL , Daniel is age 14 and is deaf. Here is a question for you Terry researchers out there. In the household of Richard Everett Terry in 1850 and 1860 AL are listed 3 males named John. Thomas & Keeble/Kibble. I am told THESE ARE NOT Richard's children. Are they the missing orphans of my Kibble's brother John? They fit the same age group. If they are, than what family connection is there between my Terry line and Richard Everett Terry's Terry line? Hillard Judge Terry is also from Richard's line and he is married to a Smith. My Kibble's daughters full name is Nancy Smith Terry. I know this is most unlikey but when you hit a brick wall you look at any possibilities available. A clue is a clue.

I have several TERRY's listed in the Lake Providence, Louisiana census records. I also do research for Carroll County, AR, too... there was a real TERRY/WAGGONER or TERRY/AMBROSE feud here (in Berryville, Arkansas) in the late 1800's. Were any of your TERRY's a part of that? Just thought I'd drop you a note to make a connection. You've done a lot a research... I enjoyed your site very much. Sincerely, Sandy Schmitz

My gg grandfather was Martin Terry who died Nov. 17th 1885 and listed as the ex. of his will John and Stephen Terry. From Martin came my g grandfather John W. Terry born born Aug. 9th 1848 and married Ada Ann Settles born Oct. 12, 1852-3. From them came the following children the first listed being my grandfather. Euel John Terry 6/25/1891 Lucindy Cumi Terry 11/14/1873 Ollie Eugena Terry 9/29/1873 Julia Ann Terry 11/15/1877 James Martin Terry (Jim) 11/11/1879 Wade Edward Terry 1/23/1882 Senea ? To his will (? his brothers or sons) Our Terrys came from all over and migrated into North Georgia. They came from North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia and Georgia. One thing I have found that is very prominent in some of the Terry's from pictures I have seen on the net, is their ears. Their ears stand out a little bit and are of medium size. Please Email me at bbmc@bellsouth.net if any of these names connect. Thanks, Brenda Pass Massey

Comments: I have started working on TFH for MAR-APR 1999. It is snowing today Saturday, March 13th in Sapulpa, Oklahoma and I was just mowing the lawn last week. I usually do some additions to the TFH on the weekends and try to add the queries as they come in the E-mail or the Guest Page. The Guest Page is the easiest to paste into the Historian. Have a good weekend. Wife just said we have 3 inches of new snow..... and there is a picture of it in the TFH for MAR-APR 1999 on the TERRY FAMILY HISTORIAN web page.

Comments: Several years ago a cousin sent me some research she had gathered while trying to trace her grandmother, Lula Mae Crawford. Recently I got the file out and read it over and realized that she is looking for Terry history. Lula or Lulu told her children that her parents died when she was about 1 or 2 years old. She then became a boarder of J. B. Terry. She said she didn't know if she had brothers or sisters, and hinted that she might be part Indian. Her probated birth certificate lists her date of birth as May 20, 1891 in Durant (Indian Territory), Bryan County, Oklahoma. Her father is listed as J.B. Terry, her mother as Jane Crawford. Father's age is 48 years, mother's was 42 years. J.B. Terry is listed as born in Texas, Mother born in Arkansas, with 3 other children. The witnesses to the probated information were W.D.Boydstun, and B.L.Russell - it was filed 28th December 1955. My cousin had contacted people about J.B. Terry, she was told he was the son of James F. Terry, and was born abt 1848 in Texas and resided in Hunt County, Texas in the area between Wolfe City and Celeste. I have located James F. and J. B. Terry in Hunt County, Texas. James F. Terry was born abt 1809 in Kentucky, he came to Texas with his brother Andrew Terry born abt 1803 in Virginia, the family had moved to Hardin County, Kentucky in the area of White Mills. Parents were said to be one of the county's most prosperous families, having huge land holdings. The families of James F. and Andrew moved to Greene (now Jersey) County, Illinois around 1830 and left for Texas in 1842 settling first in Fannin County. They received a land grant in Hunt County in 1854. Marriage records list J.B. as marrying Louisianna Simmons January 3, 1867. There are Crawford families also in the area, but the letters my cousin had received seemed to say that they knew of no marriage between J.B. and a Crawford. I would like to see any information that someone might have on the family to help find Lula's missing family. Was she a Terry? I remember her well when I was growing up, a very sweet lady who treated me like a granddaughter. Her husband Mr. Goolsby used to tell me that he had seen Billy the Kid in person. Any help at all would be deeply appreciated.

Comments: My third-great-grandmother was JANE TERRY (1800-1859) of Chester and Abbeville Districts, SC, daughter of Jeremiah Sealy Terry and Sarah Terry. Jane first married Dr. Joseph B. Gibert, then following his death, married my ancestor ALEXANDER HUNTER of Abbeville District. I'm hoping to soon learn the origins of Jane's great-grandfather STEPHEN TERRY, who died in Chester District SC in the 1760's. Maybe I'll find some clues on this great web site!

I believe he may have descended from the James Terry of Virginia (ca. 1725). My father was Charles W. Terry, Jr. (b.Hale County, AL--1913). His father was Charles W. Terry (b. Hale County, AL--1878). His father was Hilliard R. Terry (b. Hale County, AL--1850's). I have further information for anyone interested.

Comments: Very nice site, especially like being able to view the pedigree. I am trying to trace the ancestors of my ggg-grandmother Nancy Jane Terry ca 1828 in McNairy Co. TN. Her parents were William & Permelia Terry. William was born ca 1804 in TN, died in Pontotoc Co. MS. Permelia was born 14 May 1808 in S.C. died 4 Aug 1862 in either Lafayette or Pontotoc Co. MS. They had children named Jesse born ca 1830 who married Sarah A. Sledge, Ezekial born ca 1832 who married Martha Ann Clements, John born ca 1834 who married Matilda L. Lyen, James born ca 1836 and Lewis P. born ca 1838 who married Ester (?). It seems that William & Permelia moved to Pontotoc County in the early 1840's. Nancy Jane married Lemuel Merry Sledge abt 1847, they had 11 children that we're aware of. I would like to hear from descendants of any of the family to compare notes. I hope someone has gone back further than William. Please contact me at mickeyaranki@netzero.net Mickey Paulson Aranki

Comments: Dear Mike: Please inform the descendants of Stephen Terry & Mildred (Bagby) Terry of Todd Co.,Ky. that I have spent $1500 last year having the Stephen Terry Family Graveyard cleaned & cleared. Now I plan to try to get the D.A.R.'s to put a highway marker out on U.S.Hwy 79 just north of Guthrie,Ky. along the Clarksville-Russellville Road to mark the grave of Stephen Terry born 1756 in Louisa Co.,Va. and died in 1820 in Todd County, Ky. I have unravelled the original Stephen Terry land in Todd County and can prove every "inch" of his original tract. The homeplace was torn down when the new highway was built thru the farm. Have marked the land owned by his sons and sons-in-laws. Plan to have a tombstone placed in the cemetery sometime this spring. If anyone can prove their descent, would be happy to have their names inscribed for a fee. Edna Bushnell, 2919 Fairway Dr., Birmingham, Al. 35213 EBushnell@prodigy.net

Comments: This is a good way to get solid responses and has worked in the Terry Family Historian. Just post your Terry line from yourself to the last known Terry. You will notice 1 is me, 2 is my father 4 is my grandfather. Only list your Terry line pedigree. I always list the county if known as this is where most records will be located. At a glance, folks will know where you are in the Terry groupings. I include my address because there are still a lot of Terry researchers who are not networked yet.

Thanks
